Liverpool’s Strategy Unveiled as Klopp Chooses Between Two Wingers and Three Midfielders After Prioritizing Defender Selection
A recent report has unveiled six potential targets that Liverpool is contemplating for the upcoming transfer windows in 2024, with a particular focus on rebuilding their midfield. While Liverpool has not yet made any definitive moves in the January transfer window, their historical activity during this period suggests they could be active this month in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
Known for making strategic transfer decisions, Liverpool appears to be planning for both the current and upcoming summer transfer windows. According to Caught Offside, the top defensive target is Goncalo Inacio from Sporting CP, addressing the need for a left-footed center-back and potentially identifying a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. To secure Inacio’s services, Liverpool may need to meet his €60m release clause.
In the midfield, despite Liverpool’s previous acquisitions in the summer, three players are still under consideration. Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach, Khephren Thuram from Nice, and Schalke’s rising star Assan Ouedraogo are on Liverpool’s radar. The club might be seeking a younger defensive midfielder than Wataru Endo, although tactical criteria may vary.
With Mohamed Salah’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, Liverpool could be looking to strengthen their attack in January. Pedro Neto from Wolves and Johan Bakayoko from PSV are highlighted as high-profile targets. However, competition from other clubs is expected, with Arsenal expressing interest in Neto and Bayern Munich eyeing Ouedraogo.
Liverpool faces decisions on prioritizing reinforcements in three positions, considering the current void on the right wing due to Salah’s absence. The report suggests that the center-back position, particularly with Joel Matip’s injury and potential departure, might be the priority. Despite coping well in midfield, Liverpool may evaluate immediate needs and future prospects, emphasizing their desire for a competitive squad.
