“Assessing the Potential Impact of Jon Gruden’s Consideration for the Saints’ Offensive Staff Amidst Ongoing Challenges”

Pete Carmichael has held the role of Saints offensive coordinator since 2009, gaining full control in 2022 after Sean Payton’s departure. Under his leadership, the offense has experienced both successes and challenges, often attributed to inconsistent quarterback performances.

The question arises: Could Jon Gruden provide a solution to the Saints’ issues? Gruden, who last coached in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders, resigned amid controversy involving emails containing offensive language. Since then, he has maintained a low profile.

Gruden’s coaching stint with the Raiders, starting in 2018 after a decade-long hiatus, failed to produce a standout offense. Throughout his tenure, the Raiders never ranked in the top 20 for overall points scored.

Despite potential optimism stemming from Derek Carr’s improvement towards the end of the season, the notion of Gruden fixing the Saints’ problems raises skepticism. The connection between Carr and Gruden in Oakland/Las Vegas may exist, but their previous collaboration did not yield significant offensive success. Consequently, doubts linger about whether Gruden’s impact would differ in New Orleans, given the historical performance of his coached offenses.
