Galatasaray Proposes Alternative Transfer Option for Rangers with Twente Seeking to Obstruct Gijs Smal Agreement

The 22-year-old appears likely to depart from Ibrox this month, struggling to

establish himself in the Premiership. Rangers anticipate a competition for the

acquisition of Rıdvan Yılmaz, with Galatasaray expressing interest in the left-back.

Despite his £5 million transfer from Besiktas 18 months ago, the Turkish international

has been unable to displace Borna Barisic as the primary left-back at Ibrox.

Barisic, nearing the end of his Rangers contract, has prompted Belgian

manager Philippe Clement to consider a positional overhaul. Josh Doig

is rumored to be leaving Hellas Verona for the Scottish Premiership side.

Initially linked with a potential loan or as part of a deal in the opposite direction,

Yilmaz faces challenges securing a move to Serie A side Hellas Verona, as

Galatasaray reportedly shows interest. With current first-choice

left-back Angelino set to return to parent club RB Leipzig on loan,

Galatasaray’s manager Okan Buruk is in search of a replacement.

Ajansspor reports that Yilmaz is seen as a temporary solution to the left-back position.

A loan offer is expected to be presented, aiming to bring him

back to his homeland and rejuvenate his career.

Finding a replacement is proving difficult, as former Hibs player

Doig attracts interest from across Europe, with Marseille reportedly prepared to make a bid.

Gijs Smal is considered an alternative, but FC Twente is expected to negotiate firmly.

Technical director Arnold Bruggink, speaking at a fan forum, confirmed that

a new contract offer is on the table for 26-year-old Gijs Smal, who is free to engage with other clubs as his current deal expires in the summer. Bruggink stated,

“Gijs Smal has now received a proposal from the club… He is of exceptional value to FC Twente.”
