Celtic’s January Transfer Decision Leaves Pundit Astonished
Pundit and former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson has expressed surprise at the potential acquisition
of Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn by the Hoops.
The German player is nearing a move to Celtic, which would mark their first signing of January.
Wilson finds it perplexing as he believes manager Brendan Rodgers already
has an abundance of wingers at his disposal. According to Wilson, the addition
of another winger doesn’t seem necessary, stating, “It’s not a position I thought was a priority.”
He points out the existing options like Abada, Yang, Maeda, Palma, Mikey
Johnston, and James Forrest, acknowledging that some may be on the way out
but didn’t anticipate a winger being Rodgers’ initial signing this month.
Despite Wilson’s reservations, he acknowledges the potential
rationale behind the move, considering the unavailability of
Yang and Daizen Maeda for several games post-winter break and the injury
challenges Celtic has faced this season. Moreover, Kuhn brings quality to the table,
boasting a better track record and career history than some current players.
If the deal goes through, Kuhn would be categorized alongside players like Maeda and Luis Palma.
While some may question the logic behind this potential signing, Kuhn seems to have caught Rodgers’ attention. Although none of the summer signings appeared to be Rodgers’ choices, the 24-year-old’s playing style and record make him appear to be a player of the manager’s preference.
This prospective addition could be encouraging for fans as Celtic aims to bolster their squad for a crucial title run-in during the remainder of the transfer window.
