Marseille appears to have outpaced Rangers in the pursuit of signing Hellas Verona left-back
Josh Doig, with the 21-year-old leaning towards a move to France, as reported by Football Scotland.
Recent news on January 11 indicated that Doig will not be joining Ibrox in the current January transfer window.
On January 9, Alfredo Pedulla revealed that the Ligue 1 side submitted a
£4.3 million bid for the Scotland under-21 international.
Doig’s potential addition to Rangers could have addressed the team’s left-back needs,
a crucial position in Philippe Clement’s tactical plans.
Given the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Borna Barisic and Ridvan
Yilmaz, bringing in a talented and sought-after player like Doig would
have strengthened the defensive options at Ibrox. However, the financial constraints
at Rangers, particularly in comparison to Marseille’s reported £4.3 million bid,
make it impractical for the Scottish club to engage in a bidding war.
Despite the evident advantages of having Doig in the squad, Rangers
need to recognize their limitations and adopt a realistic approach.
Shifting the focus to alternative targets and reinforcing other areas of the
team becomes a pragmatic strategy, considering the intense competition for Doig’s signature.
Redirecting efforts toward viable options that align with the budget
and squad requirements is essential for a strategic and feasible approach in the ongoing transfer window.
