“Stockport County Secures Loan Deal for Aston Villa’s Rico Richards, Adding Versatility and Excitement to Squad”
Stockport County has successfully secured the services of Aston Villa forward
Rico Richards on loan for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old,
embarking on his inaugural loan stint, has already commenced
training with the team and is poised to be part of the squad for the
upcoming match against Notts County in League Two.
A versatile forward capable of playing in various positions,
Richards has been making a notable impact at Villa Park since his transfer
from West Bromwich Albion last summer. Having initiated his career at
West Brom at the age of seven, Richards has steadily progressed through the ranks.
He made his debut for the first team in a Carabao Cup match against
Arsenal in 2021 and later marked his league debut as a
substitute in a Championship fixture against Hull City.
Dave Challinor, the First-Team Manager of Stockport County, expressed
his excitement about the new addition, stating, “I’m delighted to
welcome Rico to the club… It’s Rico’s first loan, but he is
highly thought of and has the ball-carrying ability that we don’t currently have in the squad at present.
We are really confident that he will impact our squad and get you, the supporters, off your seats.”
Simon Wilson, Director of Football, also weighed in on Richards’ potential,
stating, “Rico is a creative, attacking player with an eye for a goal.
He has performed very well in U21s football and in the EFL Trophy games…
In our conversations so far, he seems hungry to take his next step, and we are excited to see how he transitions into senior football.”
