“Sima’s Hip Injury Casts Doubt on Rangers’ Forward Presence Amidst African Cup of Nations Campaign”
Senegal will assess Abdallah Sima’s hip injury incurred during the African Cup of Nations, impacting his participation in the tournament. As one of Rangers’ joint-top scorers alongside James Tavernier, Sima has contributed ten league goals this season under Philippe Clement.
While Rangers express interest in securing a permanent deal for the Brighton loanee, they are mindful of the potential substantial transfer fee.
Sima, currently on international duty in the Ivory Coast, faced setbacks despite Senegal’s initial success in winning two games and securing qualification for the next round.
Sima’s injury emerged as he remained an unused substitute against Gambia and was excluded from the squad against Cameroon.
Manager Aliou Cisse disclosed that Sima’s absence was due to discomfort in the adductor muscles of the hip, with a further assessment scheduled in the coming days.
Senegal’s victory ensures Sima’s continued involvement in the competition.
However, his potential absence could extend beyond international duty, impacting Rangers’ upcoming matches against St Mirren, Livingston, and Aberdeen if Senegal progresses to the tournament final on February 11 in Abidjan.
Rangers anxiously await updates on Sima’s injury, given his significant role in the team’s performance during the first half of the season.
