“Former Cowboys Coach Kellen Moore in Talks for Offensive Coordinator Role with NFC Rivals, Philadelphia Eagles”
Former Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Kellen Moore is reportedly in discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles to become their next offensive coordinator, despite his previous ties to the NFC East rivals.
Moore, who served as the offensive coordinator for the
Cowboys in 2022 before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023,
is recognized as a promising offensive coaching talent.
ESPN reports that he is being interviewed as one of the top candidates
for the Eagles’ vacant offensive coordinator position,
following the departure of Brian Johnson.
The Cowboys and Eagles have a long-standing rivalry, having faced
each other 129 times since 1961, with the Cowboys leading 73 to 56 in wins.
Moore, despite the fierce competition, may be enticed by the opportunity
to work with the Eagles’ offensive lineup, featuring players like A.J.
Brown and DeVonta Smith, who reached the Super Bowl after the 2022 season.
Before transitioning to coaching, Moore was an NFL quarterback for
the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, retiring in 2018.
He later became the quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys, eventually
being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019.
After parting ways with Dallas in 2023, Moore served as the offensive
coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.
This potential move to the Eagles marks a return to the NFC East for
the 35-year-old coach, who has spent the majority of his career as
both a player and coach in this division.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the Eagles have considered Moore;
in 2020, they evaluated him for the role of offensive coordinator,
and in 2021, he was on their list of potential
head coaches before the appointment of Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles, after a disappointing end to the 2023 season, losing five of their
last six regular-season games and struggling in the wild-card round
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are undergoing changes.
The firing of Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean
Desai signals a shift, with Vic Fangio expected to become the next
defensive coordinator. Head coach Sirianni is now focused on identifying the
right candidate for the team’s offensive coordinator position.
