Crucial Moment Approaches as Fabrizio Romano Teases Maxime Esteve Transfer Amid Everton and Burnley Associations
Everton and Burnley are in contention for the signing of Maxime Esteve, according to a hint dropped by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Daily Mail had reported on January 27 that Everton approached Montpellier for the
21-year-old center-back, while Burnley intensified their efforts to secure his signature.
Romano’s tweet on January 22 indicated that Burnley was actively working on a
deal for Esteve, who is set to be a free agent in June 2025.
On January 29, Romano posted the eyes emoji, hinting at a development, and mentioned Burnley.
Romano’s tweet suggests that Everton and other interested parties might have been
deterred by the price in the race for Esteve.
Given Burnley’s persistent pursuit and Romano’s earlier update identifying Esteve as a key option for Burnley, it seems likely that they are nearing a deal.
Everton’s financial constraints, especially amid an ongoing takeover and potential reliance on new owners for cash injections, may limit them to loan deals in this transfer window.
This situation suggests that Burnley, actively pursuing Esteve, may have the financial flexibility to meet Montpellier’s demands for the defender.
Despite Sean Dyche having James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite performing well in the first team, signing a center-back this month might not be a priority for Burnley.
