Celtic Given Deadline by Lecce for Decision on Gustaf Lagerbielke’s Transfer Exit
Lecce has communicated to Celtic that they require a prompt decision regarding Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The 23-year-old Swede was close to joining Serie A side Lecce on loan, but Celtic halted the
move due to a Cameron Carter-Vickers injury.
Lagerbielke, who has seen limited playtime under Brendan Rodgers since his £3 million transfer
from Elfsborg in the summer, has been offered an opportunity by Lecce to rejuvenate his career in Italy.
Expressing a desire to depart Parkhead and fulfill a childhood aspiration of playing in the Italian top-flight, Lagerbielke is eager for the green light from Celtic.
However, Celtic is currently assessing the situation concerning CCV’s injury setback, with Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Maik Nawrocki, and Stephen Welsh positioned ahead of Lagerbielke in the pecking order.
According to reports from The Scottish Sun, Lecce is prepared to abandon the deal if
they do not receive a decision today, but Lagerbielke remains keen on securing an exit.
Lagerbielke stated, “Lecce has shown a very strong interest in me.
I want to go, play and make a difference. All footballers dream of playing in the big leagues.
And I have dreamed of Serie A since I was a child.
Many Scandinavian footballers have played in Lecce; this would be an advantage in terms of settling in.”
In the meantime, Japanese player Yuki Kobayashi, who is on the fringes, is attracting interest from multiple clubs in the MLS.
