Borna Barisic leaves the Rangers, saying that Philippe Clement’s “writing’s on the wall” at Ibrox.
Borna Barisic seems to be on the verge of leaving Rangers, according to Stephen Craigan, a pundit for Viaplay Sports. Craigan made this assertion during the channel’s coverage of Rangers’ 2-0 Scottish Cup victory over Ayr United on February 10th.
He suggested that Barisic’s time at Ibrox is drawing to a close, especially considering his
expiring contract and Ridvan Yilmaz’s ascension ahead of him in the pecking order.
Barisic, aged 31, contributed to the scoring at Ibrox with a deflected strike, his first goal in a year.
Despite this, Craigan indicated at half-time that Barisic’s departure seems imminent due to Yilmaz’s consistent appearances under Philippe Clement’s management.
Interestingly, during the January transfer window, it was Yilmaz who was expected to depart, with links to clubs like Hellas Verona and Galatasaray.
However, he remained at Ibrox and has now seemingly displaced Barisic as the first-choice
left-back, enjoying his best form since joining Rangers from Besiktas two summers ago.
While Rangers may not have been keen on letting Barisic’s contract enter its final six months if they intended to retain him beyond the summer, a short-term extension could still be on the table,
depending on future transfer developments.
If Yilmaz continues his impressive performances, it might require a substantial offer to lure him away,
while Jefte, initially intended to join during the January window, is anticipated to
arrive after complications with APOEL Nicosia.
However, the future of these defenders, including Barisic, remains uncertain, and Rangers’
defensive lineup for the upcoming season will only become clearer closer to the transfer window.
