Arteta hopes to defeat Blues to become the ideal Jorginho replacement, as Arsenal and Chelsea are “in talks” to capture the in-demand Everton player.
Reports suggest that Arsenal and Chelsea have initiated contact with Everton regarding a potential transfer for talented midfielder Amadou Onana.
The 22-year-old, who joined Everton from Lille in 2022, has emerged as a key player for
the Toffees, attracting interest from several top clubs.
Onana primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, showcasing impressive statistics with an
average of 2.6 tackles and 0.6 interceptions per match in the Premier League this season.
Everton manager Sean Dyche views the Belgian international as a crucial asset for the future
and aims to retain him for the long term.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, reportedly considers Onana as an ideal long-term replacement
for midfield stalwarts like Jorginho and Thomas Partey.
Chelsea had previously expressed interest in the Everton star last summer but failed to reach
an agreement with the Toffees at that time.
While Manchester United has shown previous interest in Onana, their focus may shift due to the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
Now, Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly engaged in discussions with Everton for Onana’s signature at the end of the season.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona has also expressed interest in Onana.
However, doubts have arisen regarding their ability to meet Everton’s asking price, which is reported to be around ยฃ51 million or more, though other sources suggest it could be closer to ยฃ70 million.
With Barcelona potentially unable to meet Everton’s demands, a bidding war between Arsenal and Chelsea for Onana’s services seems plausible.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are seeking to strengthen their midfield options, with Onana
presenting an attractive prospect.
Arsenal aims to secure a young, high-quality midfielder to reinforce their squad for the long term,
while Chelsea may consider offloading players like Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez, making
Onana a valuable addition to either team, provided they can reach an agreement with Everton.
