The FFP hearing has shocked former Everton CEO Wyness, who says, “It’s very important.”

Keith Wyness, the former chief of Everton, has emphasized that the Financial Fair Play hearing concerning the Toffees should have been transparent to the public.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who previously served as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and currently advises elite clubs through a football consultancy,

argued that the Premier League needs to demonstrate effective regulation.

Everton awaits the verdict of their appeal, which concluded earlier in the month, regarding their

10-point deduction, expected to be announced in mid-February.

The club was found to have breached the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules

by incurring losses exceeding £105 million over three years leading up to the 2021-22 season.

Notably, both the original hearing and the subsequent appeal were conducted behind closed doors.

In addition to Everton, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City are also facing Financial Fair Play cases. Everton is further charged with a second breach of Profitability and Sustainability Regulations.

Currently positioned in the Premier League relegation zone, Everton is one point away from

safety with 15 games remaining in the season.

Wyness expressed his belief that the hearing should have been public, stating in the podcast, “They did print the transcript of the initial hearing, but I think the case should’ve been heard in the open.

It’s got such importance in terms of how the Premier League is regulated, it has to be seen to be regulated well.

It’s very important, I think it would’ve reduced the jeopardy for the Premier League.
