Why, in light of Liverpool and Man City’s performances, Vincent Kompany thinks Burnley can surprise Arsenal
Only a few weeks prior, the Clarets had suffered a 3-1 loss to rival championship contenders Manchester City. This time, they dropped the match by the same score.
When the teams met again this Saturday at Turf Moor, Arsenal, who go to The Emirates this Saturday, defeated Kompany’s team 3-1 back in November.
Although Burnley hasn’t yet secured a point against the top three teams in the league, or any other team in the top 11, Kompany thinks his team’s performances demonstrate their ability to pull off an upset.
“It’s a team with a lot of quality and a stadium and crowd with a lot of history, passion for the team and that’s always tough,” the Clarets manager remarked following last week’s loss at Anfield.
As much as we were there to play our own game, we performed admirably there.
“There is undoubtedly something beneficial to learn from the game. We shouldn’t take too much away from this game, in my opinion, since it should also give us the motivation to keep playing.
“We’ve played Liverpool twice. We’ve played City twice; you have to play them all, but our performances have given us enough reason to think we can succeed, and that ought to come first.
Burnley’s performance at Anfield gave Kompany cause for encouragement, as his team gave the hosts a lot of problems.
David Fofana missed two excellent chances to knot the score at 2-1, while Wilson Odobert also erred wide with the goal at his fingertips.
“As a player, I’ve visited this location numerous times, and I didn’t have those opportunities,” Kompany continued.
We’ve had many chances to play some of the other elite teams, so it’s not the first time, but we don’t pout about it. That’s just the way things are. All we need to do is move forward and prepare for the next task.
