Wayne Mardle responds to the jeers directed at Rob Cross in Glasgow during Premier League darts.
Wayne Mardle advised against getting involved in Scottish football after Rob Cross faced boos at the Premier League darts event in Glasgow.
Cross, the 2018 PDC world champion, had visited Rangers‘ Ibrox Stadium before the
Scottish Premiership match against Ross County, which seemingly didn’t sit well
with some fans attending the darts event at the OVO Hydro the following day.
Initially confused by the reaction, Mardle and fellow commentator Stuart Pyke speculated
that the boos were due to Cross’s visit to the Rangers game.
Mardle humorously diverted the conversation, emphasizing the focus on darts.
While some darts fans were initially puzzled by the reaction, those aware of Cross’s visit to Ibrox understood the context.
In a football-centric city like Glasgow, where support is divided between Rangers and Celtic,
Cross’s visit might have sparked disapproval from Celtic fans, especially given the intense
rivalry between the two clubs.
Mardle remained focused on the darts, and his victory over ‘Bully Boy’ Michael Smith likely
didn’t improve the mood of any disgruntled fans in attendance.
Despite the initial reception, Mardle’s performance on the darts stage remained the highlight of the event.
