Everton’s “shining light” might make their first start of the month on Monday against Crystal Palace, according to Sean Dyche.

Sean Dyche has provided an update on Everton‘s injury situation ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

Everton aims to alleviate their relegation concerns and narrow the gap with Crystal Palace, who are currently five points ahead. The team is coming off a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, with Erling Haaland’s late goal securing victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Ahead of the clash with Roy Hodgson’s team, Dyche confirmed that Ben Godfrey has recovered from illness, and Seamus Coleman is also available for selection. Additionally, Abdoulaye Doucouré could make his first start of February.

Doucouré, 31, has been sidelined with a hamstring issue since mid-November, but he may return for Monday’s game.

“He’s been performing well. If he’s fit and feels ready, he’ll be considered for selection. We have a couple of days of training before the match, so we’ll assess his condition,” Dyche stated.

Dyche has consistently praised Doucouré, expressing admiration for the midfielder’s contributions both on and off the pitch.

“I’ve always been impressed with him since his time at Watford. I instilled confidence in him, reintegrated him into the squad, and he hasn’t looked back since. He’s been exceptional,” Dyche commented in December 2023.

“He embodies the style of play I want – pressing high, energy, and commitment. He possesses great tactical awareness, intercepting passing lanes and disrupting the opposition’s play,” Dyche added.

Doucouré’s return could significantly bolster Everton’s performance, potentially leading to their first victory of 2024.
