After the Everton loanee’s horrific tackle today, Gerard Deulofeu now makes an emotional allegation.
Everton’s Mason Holgate received a red card today, but fortunately, he was playing for relegation rivals Sheffield United. This move seems like one of the few smart decisions the club has made recently, potentially sabotaging another struggling team’s survival chances.
In two out of three games for his loan club, the 27-year-old has conceded five goals in one match and received a red card after just 13 minutes in another. Many rightly condemned his reckless tackle, which struck the inside of Kaoru Mitoma’s leg, with pundits like Richard Keys and Andy Gray expressing anger.
Surprisingly, Gerard Deulofeu, a former Everton player, also criticized the tackle. Deulofeu, known for his time at Goodison Park and his partnership with Romelu Lukaku, expressed his disappointment, emphasizing the need for exemplary punishment for such tackles.
Holgate’s future at Everton looks uncertain. Under Sean Dyche’s management, he hasn’t played a single game this season and was sparingly used last season.
With his loan spells at Southampton and Sheffield United being disappointing, and his contract expiring this summer, it’s likely he may have played his last game for Everton.
However, if his poor performances continue to impact relegation rivals, it could ironically serve as a positive final contribution for Everton before his potential departure.
