“He really took it personally.” A Premier League striker finds it amusing how outraged the Spurs star was by his recent actions.
Neal Maupay has offered his perspective on James Maddison’s response to his dart celebration during Brentford’s recent loss to Tottenham Hotspur in North London.
Maupay is known for his ability to provoke opponents, a skill that sets him apart in the Premier League and even earns him recognition from both sides of North London.
Notably, he was involved in incidents such as injuring Bernd Leno in 2020 and clashing with Matteo Guendouzi during a match against Arsenal.
In January, Maupay further stirred emotions by replicating James Maddison’s celebration after scoring for Brentford against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite Maupay’s efforts, Spurs ultimately secured a 3-2 victory.
Following the match, Maddison mocked Maupay on Instagram, prompting a response
from Maupay himself in an interview with The Times. Maupay found Maddison’s reaction amusing, stating,
“He took it really personally, it’s funny. I threw a dart and he got so offended he posted
my picture on his Instagram. But if I give a little something, I have got to be able to take it as well.”
Brentford’s tactics, including time-wasting from the outset, aimed to unsettle Tottenham, with Maupay’s goal and celebration adding to the tension.
While these tactics initially appeared effective as Spurs struggled to find their rhythm,
ultimately, they rebounded to secure the win, leaving Brentford to rue the outcome despite
Maupay finding humor in Maddison’s response.
