Graeme Souness and Alan Pardew criticize Everton loanee live on talkSPORT, calling it “awful.”
Alan Pardew and Graeme Souness criticized Mason Holgate for his red-card tackle during Sheffield United’s heavy 5-0 defeat to Brighton on Sunday, February 18th.
The Everton loanee, currently playing for Bramall Lane, was slammed for his reckless foul on Kaoru Mitoma. Pardew, speaking on talkSPORT, expressed disbelief that the
referee didn’t immediately send Holgate off, emphasizing the severity of the challenge. Souness echoed the sentiment, highlighting the potential for injury to both players involved.
There are doubts about whether Holgate will feature for Everton again after his
poor performances with Sheffield United.
His actions have likely damaged team morale, particularly given Everton’s struggles this season. Despite his experience, Holgate has failed to demonstrate leadership qualities during his loan spells.
With Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski excelling in defense, there seems to be no place for him at Goodison Park. Even in their absence, Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey are preferred options.
Holgate’s cameo against Brighton only served to reinforce this perception.
