Is it a wise move for Tottenham Hotspur to have their sights set on an Everton star?
Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly eyeing Everton‘s rising talent James Garner as a potential target for the upcoming summer transfer window, as per Football Insider.
Garner is seen as an alternative to Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, whom
Spurs also have an interest in acquiring.
During the winter transfer window, Tottenham attempted to secure
Gallagher, but the deal fell through as Chelsea were unwilling to part ways
with the midfielder midway through the season due to his importance to the squad.
James Garner, who emerged from the Manchester United academy, has
established himself as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.
Initially starting his career as a center-back before transitioning into a midfielder, Garner joined Everton in September 2022 on a permanent basis, signing a four-year contract.
This season, he has contributed two goals and an assist in 31 appearances.
The 22-year-old excels in both defensive and attacking aspects of the game,
boasting impressive statistics such as averaging 3.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions,
1.4 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.3 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game, with a passing accuracy of 81.9%.
Tottenham Hotspur is in dire need of reinforcements in midfield, especially with the
potential departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and uncertainty surrounding
Giovani Lo Celso’s future at the club.
Garner’s versatility, having performed well in various midfield roles, would provide
valuable depth and options for manager Ange Postecoglou.
However, Newcastle United is also reportedly interested in signing Garner, which
could lead to a bidding war between the clubs for the emerging midfield talent.
