Sir Jim Ratcliffe has insisted that he has no concerns working alongside the Glazer family at Manchester United.
Tuesday night saw the confirmation of Sir Ratcliffe’s entry as a minority shareholder in the 20-time English champions. Nonetheless, the much-criticized Glazers have maintained a majority interest at Old Trafford.
As part of the new arrangement, INEOS will take over football operations. Hence Ratcliffe is optimistic that he can collaborate with the Americans to aid Man United’s return to glory.
“I only know Joel and Avram, and despite what you may read in the media, they are amiable, polite, and ardent Manchester United supporters. “I am looking forward, not backward, but I understand the frustrations and anger [of supporters],” he said to BBC Sport.
“We’ll work to get Manchester United back to its rightful place as one of the world’s most prestigious clubs. So please be patient with us.” The relationship we will have with Joel and Avram—which is, in my opinion, a really positive and trustworthy relationship—is essential to it succeeding.
“I believe that selling the Glazer family outright to the Qataris could have been the simpler course of action in certain ways. To be fair to the Glazers, they believed that selling to me would be the wisest course of action since they believed United would gain more from it.
“In the end, Manchester United is not at the level we want to be at. It requires time. It is the entire machine, not just the players. That machine houses thousands of people, and we have to have it operating at peak efficiency.
“At recruitment, we ought to be on par with every other team in the league, but we haven’t been. Financial Fair Play, or FFP, is a novel concept in football that is crucial to effective club management. We’ll determine how much money we have and make good use of it.
“To enable great athletes to succeed, we must identify the best candidates worldwide, confirm that they possess the necessary moral fiber and personality, and establish the ideal conditions. Our only goal is to improve players’ performance on the field.”
In addition, Ratcliffe showered Dan Ashworth with adulation, suggesting that the footballer is Manchester United’s top pick to take over as the team’s new sporting director.
After telling Newcastle United that he wants to relocate to Old Trafford, the Magpies put Ashworth on gardening leave.
“Dan Ashworth, in my opinion, is one of the greatest sporting directors out there and a 10/10. He would benefit Manchester United greatly. At this point in his career, it makes sense that someone like Dan would view the Manchester United position as an extremely intriguing challenge, according to Ratcliffe.
“In the end, it’s hard to fault Dan for considering the possibility of becoming a sporting director. This maybe the most sought-after position in football, especially given the opportunity at Manchester United. The idea that Dan Ashworth would sit around doing nothing for eighteen months is absurd.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe also discussed the future of Mason Greenwood in the team. Man United will be expecting his return this summer once his loan at Getafe expires.
