Prior to Brighton, Sean Dyche discloses an injury concern over Vitalii Mykolenko.
The Ukrainian left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko has been one of Everton’s most reliable players this season, consistently performing well and often ranking highly among left-backs across the league according to performance metrics.
Since his £20 million move from Dynamo Kiev in 2022, Mykolenko
initially experienced a mixed start at Everton. However, he has now firmly established
himself as the first-choice left-back at Goodison Park.
Despite a brief absence in mid-December due to the team’s injury and suspension crisis,
Mykolenko has made 26 appearances for Everton across all competitions this season.
However, his availability for the upcoming match against Brighton is uncertain due to a knock he sustained, as revealed by Dyche in his pre-match press conference.
Dyche expressed hope that Mykolenko would recover in time for the match, highlighting
his importance to the team as the only natural left-back in the senior squad.
Furthermore, Dyche provided updates on other players’ fitness.
Seamus Coleman is nearing a return after overcoming illness, while Arnaut Danjuma
and Andre Gomes are working hard to regain fitness but are unlikely to be available for the weekend’s match.
On a positive note, Abdoulaye Doucoure did not experience any recurrence of his
previous injury during his comeback in the recent match against Crystal Palace.
Despite lasting 70 minutes before being substituted, Doucoure’s injury did not flare
up, providing a boost to Everton’s midfield options.
In terms of tactical adjustments, Amadou Onana, who scored a
late equalizer against Crystal Palace, is expected to return to the starting lineup against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Everton will aim to replicate their impressive 5-1 victory at the Amex Stadium from
last season as they continue their battle against relegation, currently level on points
with Luton Town, who are in the bottom three.
