Everton and former Chelsea midfield player Ineos is linked to Manchester United in an unexpected move.
According to recent reports, Manchester United are contemplating a move for Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Barkley, who had previously faced skepticism about his career trajectory, joined Luton
Town last August on a free transfer after a season with Nice, another club owned by Manchester United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The 30-year-old midfielder had a decent season in France but returned to the
Premier League with Luton Town. Prior to his stint at Luton, Barkley struggled to make an impact
during a loan spell at Aston Villa from Chelsea, where his career had stagnated
after an initial promising spell at Everton.
Limited appearances over five seasons at Chelsea led to a decline in Barkley’s
reputation before he left the club two years ago.
However, Luton Town took a gamble on Barkley, which has paid off handsomely.
Despite being in the latter stages of his career, the 33-times capped England international
has shown glimpses of his former self, sparking discussions about a potential recall to the national team.
Under the management of Rob Edwards, Barkley has been deployed in a
deeper midfield role, allowing him more time on the ball to influence the game.
This position is reminiscent of how Christian Eriksen has been utilized under Erik ten Hag.
A report from The Sun has now suggested that Manchester United are considering
making a move for Barkley at the end of the season.
Barkley’s one-year deal with Luton Town last summer makes him an attractive prospect for potential signings, particularly in terms of Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Premier League Salary Restrictions (PSR).
