As the second points charge ‘looms,’ James Tarkowski outlines what is’most essential’ to the Everton players.

James Tarkowski feels Everton have finally received much-needed clarity after their points deduction for violating Premier League financial regulations was reduced upon appeal.

Last Monday, Everton announced that an appeal board had decided to lower the points

deduction, initially set at 10 points by an independent Premier League Commission in November,

down to six points with immediate effect.

The club had been penalized in November 2023 for breaching the Premier League’s profit

and sustainability rules, with a three-person independent commission finding Everton guilty.

This was due to the club’s reported losses exceeding £105 million over a three-year period, ending in 2022.

Following Saturday’s 3-1 loss to West Ham United, Tarkowski commented on the outcome, stating,

“I think clarity is the most important thing for us.

We have cleared that up, and let’s concentrate on the football and try to win some football matches.

That should have started today, but it didn’t. Now we move onto the next one.”

Despite the disappointing defeat at Goodison Park, Everton currently maintains a

five-point gap from the relegation zone.

However, the club is facing another period of uncertainty after being

charged in January, alongside Nottingham Forest, for alleged breaches in their accounts for 2022/23.

The case is set to be heard next month, but any potential appeal could prolong the process,

possibly extending until the final round of fixtures in May.

Nonetheless, Tarkowski believes his team cannot use this uncertainty as an excuse.

He remarked, “The second charge that looms over again, you could easily use that as

an excuse as uncertainty, but we can’t use that.

We have been playing well, and we have played well so many times; that’s why the

blame comes on the players because the manager sets us up

and we cause teams problems; defend well,

if you don’t put them chances to bed you are going to get punished at some point.”
