Exclusive: Wyness says the Everton takeover plan may be approved in less than a week.
Keith Wyness, former chief of Everton, suggested that in the event of a rejection of the takeover bid by 777 Partners, a new ownership group could swiftly emerge and complete the takeover within a week.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness, who has extensive experience
in overseeing takeovers at clubs like Everton and Aston Villa, disclosed that due diligence procedures took
only a week during his tenure at Aston Villa.
Everton is currently awaiting a decision from the Premier League regarding the proposed
£500 million takeover by 777 Partners, which was agreed upon with Farhad Moshiri in September.
According to reports from Football Insider, 777 Partners are expected to hold face-to-face
discussions with the Premier League as the takeover process nears its conclusion.
If this group’s bid is rejected, Wyness previously indicated that two other US-based groups
are prepared to step in and take over.
Wyness explained that while any new owners would need to undergo due diligence,
this process could potentially be completed before the end of the current football season.
He stated, “If 777 Partners are rejected by mid-March or at the end of March at the latest,
then I think a new owner would want to be in place before the end of the season.
That’s going to be pretty hard with due diligence to be done, but it can be done.
I remember when I was at Villa, the due diligence there only took a week – but that was unusual.
But it can be done quickly and I think the new stadium is obviously the shining asset that
people would want to get involved with the club for.
Future forecasts of revenue streams are up so I think it could be done and Everton will
hope to have a new owner before the transfer window opens up.“
