Celtic Legend Chris Sutton Criticizes Dundee vs Rangers Match as “Embarrassment”

Unexpected Twist in Title Race as Rangers vs Dundee Scottish Premiership Fixture Postponed

Brenden Rodgers guided his team to the summit of the table with a commanding 3-1 victory over St Johnstone yesterday afternoon. This victory intensified the pressure on the Ibrox club to secure a positive result at Dens Park, leaving St Johnstone boss Craig Levein feeling disheartened.
Following the decision to postpone the game, Rangers must now wait until after the international break to endeavor to reclaim the top spot from a Celtic team that appears to be continuously improving.

In light of the postponement at Dens Park, Chris Sutton expressed his dissatisfaction, labeling the situation as an “absolute shambles.” The former Celtic icon took to social media platform X, stating, “A total embarrassment for the Scottish top flight having the Dundee Rangers game called off an hour and a half before kick-off.”
“It’s an absolute shambles how it’s come to this. Don Robertson, the referee, arrives for a pitch inspection at 10:20… Surely, making a decision earlier would have been wiser…”

Rodgers Delighted as Celtic Manager

The Celtic manager will undoubtedly be thrilled by this development. Although someone might want to inform him, as he stated yesterday, he has no interest in what’s happening with rangers today.

Of course, like Rodgers, I am joking. The Hoops gaffer will be absolutely delighted that his team sits atop the league standings heading into the international break.
As mentioned earlier, the psychological boost this will provide his squad cannot be overstated, especially now that Rangers find themselves in the position of the chasing team.

Returning to Sutton’s point, this marks Dundee’s fourth postponement due to a waterlogged pitch since the beginning of the year, making it their fifth for the season overall.

The Dens Park side experienced a similar situation with their St Mirren game on January 29th, which was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, leading to its rescheduled date in February. Additionally, their New Year game against St Johnstone was also rescheduled for the same reason. Aberdeen faced a similar fate back in October after the Tayside club’s pitch couldn’t withstand a Red Weather warning.

With the match scheduled to be televised live on Sky Sports, Sutton’s concerns are valid. This situation reflects poorly on Scottish football, particularly on Dundee, who are now under pressure to ensure that the rescheduled fixture with the Ibrox club takes place before the split next month.
