Man Utd great Ferdinand is taken aback by Ten Hag’s selection of the championship favorites versus Chelsea…

Rio Ferdinand, a revered figure at Manchester United, expressed his surprise at Erik ten Hag’s choice to keep Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay on the bench for the match against Chelsea.

The decision to make three alterations to the starting lineup, with Rashford replaced by Antony, McTominay swapped for Casemiro, and Harry Maguire stepping in for the injured Victor Lindelof, appeared to initially pay off as United led 3-2 late in the game. However, two late goals by Cole Palmer turned the tide in Chelsea’s favor.

Ferdinand found it unexpected that Ten Hag opted to leave out Rashford and McTominay, as he believed they had demonstrated their importance as key players in big matches for Manchester United this season.

He noted Rashford’s significant contributions over the years and suggested that Rashford’s absence might have been due to a possible injury. Despite acknowledging the team’s injuries, Ferdinand highlighted Rashford and McTominay’s track record against top opposition, pointing out their goal-scoring performances against the Premier League’s elite teams this season.

He referenced Rashford’s recent standout performance against Manchester City as evidence of his capability to deliver in crucial moments.

Furthermore, Ferdinand shared his thoughts on the Premier League title race, favoring Manchester City due to what he perceived as a more manageable run-in compared to their rivals. He expressed reluctance at the prospect of City winning the title but acknowledged their status as favorites, especially given the challenging run-ins of other contenders like Liverpool and Arsenal.
