Exclusive: Representatives of £33m Star in Discussions with Arsenal

Arsenal is reportedly aiming to sign Everton star Amadou Onana this summer. According to GMS sources, there is increasing optimism that the 12-cap Belgium international could be acquired for a ‘good value’ deal before the transfer window closes in September.

While Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice are key players for Mikel Arteta’s squad next season, the third spot in the midfield trio remains uncertain. Thomas Partey and Kai Havertz were among the players used in the 2023/24 season.

Onana, seen as a good value acquisition, could strengthen Arsenal’s midfield, especially with Partey potentially leading this summer’s departures. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal has made contact with Onana.

Despite Onana’s influence since joining Everton for £33 million from Lille in 2022, sources confirm that Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite are more crucial to Sean Dyche. Everton may consider offloading Onana and Chelsea-linked Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

Onana’s representatives have reached out to Arsenal and Manchester United, who are also interested in the midfielder. With several clubs targeting him, Onana’s record at Everton—where he has contributed four goals and three assists—makes him a valuable asset.

Everton’s financial needs may lead to Onana’s sale, with Bayern Munich also contacted about the midfielder. Known for his combative style and playmaking ability, Onana is ready for Champions League action, which both Arsenal and Bayern can offer.

Set to represent Belgium at Euro 2024, Onana’s standout performance could increase interest and his transfer fee. Currently earning £100,000 per week at Everton, his value might rise after a successful tournament.
