Nets’ Cam Johnson ranks as 25th-best 3rd option for 2024-25 NBA season

The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of training camp as they prepare for the beginning of the 2024-25 NBA season that could be a glimpse into how the rebuild is going. With the roster mostly set heading into Tuesday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers, one of the best players on the team appeared low on a certain ranking.

In a ranking of all 30 NBA teams’ third option by Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo! Sports, Nets forward Cam Johnson ranked 25th on the list. This kind of ranking differs from the normal top-100 rankings where some players could rank ahead of others regardless of where they rank in terms of the hierarchy on their own teams.

For context, Johnson ranks ahead of Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon, San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan, Utah Jazz forward John Collins, Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, and Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson. Ultimately, these rankings are arbitrary because Johnson will try to do the best he can no matter where he slots in within Brooklyn’s offensive scheme.

Johnson, 28, is heading into this season as one of the likely starters for a Nets team looking for some of the veterans to step up to help the team win some games while also bringing the younger players along in their development. Last season, Johnson averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 44.6% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range.
