Death of former Mayor and Alderman Don Jacques
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has been informed of the death of former Mayor and Alderman Don Jacques BEM, aged 94.
Mr Jacques served as Nuneaton and Bedworth Mayor from 1995 to 1996 and represented St Nicolas ward as a councillor as well as being a member of Warwickshire County Council.
He was leader of the Conservative group for many years and was instrumental in the ‘Roll of Honour’ for the fallen that were not listed on the War Memorial in Riversley Park.
Mr Jacques, who was a member of the Royal British Legion, was also key in organising funding to replace the stolen Old Bill Memorial and buried a time capsule in the borough to be opened in 2096.
His efforts saw him made an Honorary Alderman of Nuneaton and Bedworth in March 2022.
Leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Cllr Chris Watkins, said
“We are saddened to learn of the death of Mr Jacques.
“He was dedicated to his causes and worked tirelessly for the communities he served.
“I would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to Mr Jacques’ family and friends.”
Mr Jacques’ wife, Auriol, who served as his Mayoress died in October 2021, aged 90. He is survived by son Keith and daughter Valerie.
Details of Mr Jacques’ funeral will be confirmed in due course.
