Orlando Pirates might part ways with a key defender – Here’s why

Orlando Pirates might part ways with a key defender, according to Soccer Laduma.

The future of Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa hangs in the balance as contract renewal discussions remain unresolved. According to sources, the club is unlikely to extend Mthethwa’s contract when it expires in June 2025.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the Bucs are not planning to offer Mthethwa a contract extension. With his current deal set to expire in June 2025, the club appears to be focusing on other defensive options.

A source revealed, “He is one of the players they are looking at releasing at the end of the season as they are building a different defensive combination. Actually, it’s believed that his contract is coming to an end in June 2025, and the club is not showing signs of renewing it at the moment. They are believed to have defenders who will play most of the time ahead of him, and they don’t want to deprive him of playing regularly somewhere else, and that’s why they are set to release him.”
