Raiders predicted to sign embattled $35 million former high draft pick

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to be exploring the quarterback market during the offseason, with the team likely having its eye on free agents and 2025 NFL Draft prospects.

Despite having a new regime in the mix, the Raiders are facing the same old issue, as Las Vegas doesn’t have an entrenched starter under center on the current roster after striking out with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell.

With that in mind, TWSN’s Marissa Myers predicts the Raiders will sign Denver Broncos pending free-agent quarterback, Zach Wilson, who just completed the final year of his $35 million rookie deal. Here’s what she wrote:

“When Wilson did play in the preseason for Denver he showed strides of improvement,” Myers wrote. “He completed 63.6% of his passes for 397 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Wilson showed better composure, made better reads, and looked more confident. He has the athleticism as showcased by his ability to throw outside the pocket and pick up yards with his legs.

“With Wilson being just 25, turning 26, he can sign a contract with Las Vegas for a reasonable price and provide much better quarterback play for the Raiders,” Myers concluded.

Since being taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, Wilson’s career has been a disaster. He did not look the part of a viable signal-caller during three seasons with the Jets, which led to him being traded in 2024

Wilson landed in Denver but never saw action in a regular-season game. He did show at least some improvement during the 2024 preseason, but it’s hard to put much stock into exhibition contests.

If the Raiders were to sign Wilson, it shouldn’t be as anything more than a backup option. Sure, let him compete for a starting job, but chances are he wouldn’t win that competition.
