Former Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards, renowned for his pivotal role in the team’s recent successes, made a heartfelt return to Ann Arbor on Monday. Edwards, who concluded his collegiate career with 2,251 rushing yards, 797 receiving yards, and 25 total touchdowns, is preparing for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

 

During his visit, Edwards took the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates and coaches, reflecting on his journey and the accomplishments achieved during his tenure. Notably, Edwards was instrumental in Michigan’s 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship victory over the Washington Huskies, where he rushed for 104 yards and became the first player since 1998 to have two rushing touchdowns of over 40 yards in a national championship game.

 

In a statement shared via Michigan’s NIL Collective Circle of Champions, Edwards expressed his gratitude:

 

> “When I decided to come to Michigan, our mission was to win a National Championship, win a Big Ten Championship, and beat Ohio State, and every goal was accomplished. I am very grateful for the Michigan fans who supported me throughout my four years here.”

 

 

 

Edwards’ return also served as an opportunity to mentor current players, sharing insights from his experiences and offering guidance as they navigate their collegiate careers. His presence was a testament to the enduring bonds formed within the Michigan football community and the legacy he leaves behind.

 

As the NFL Draft approaches, Edwards has been actively participating in pre-draft events, including the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. His performances have garnered attention from scouts, particularly highlighting his speed and pass-catching abilities. At the Combine, Edwards recorded a 4.44-second 40-yard dash and impressed with 23 bench press repetitions.
