“Rangers Look to Capitalize on St Mirren’s Form Dip with Tactical Adjustments in Second Half”
Rangers are set to face a St Mirren side currently in the top six but experiencing a dip in form. Despite Gers boss Philippe Clement surprising with squad rotation, this presents an excellent opportunity for Rangers to exert pressure at the top of the table and secure three points in the second half.
Against St Mirren, the absence of width on the left, particularly with Todd Cantwell in a wide position, poses a challenge.
Inverting full-backs Ridvan Yilmaz and James Tavernier contribute to the issue, despite St Mirren not adopting a low block. Exploiting the wings, especially on the left, can create more problems for St Mirren.
While opting for a more physical midfield makes sense, there’s ample space down the wings that wasn’t effectively utilized.
Considering the conditions and the need for balance, players like Rabbi Matondo and Ross McCausland could offer better options than Cantwell in the second half.
Under Philippe Clement, Rangers have seen significant improvements, particularly in pace and width. Given the coach’s willingness to make changes and the apparent need for adjustment,
it would be surprising if the tactical approach remains unchanged for an extended period.
