“What Became of… Miku?”
NEIL LENNON believed he had secured a significant signing when he brought Venezuelan striker Miku to Celtic on loan on the final day of the August 31, 2012 transfer window.
The 27-year-old forward had unexpectedly been allowed to depart Spanish club Getafe,
where he had been their leading scorer in La Liga the previous season.
Miku, whose real name is Nicolás Ladislao Fedor Flores, had left his initial club Valencia
in January 2010 and quickly made an impact with his new team.
However, Getafe deemed him surplus to requirements when he joined Celtic on loan,
with the option for a permanent move.
Despite a promising start, Miku struggled to find success at Parkhead, managing only
two goals in 11 league appearances.
His standout moment came in the memorable 2-1 Champions League victory over Barcelona
on November 7, where Victor Wanyama and Tony Watt scored, but Miku’s overall contributions,
including his ability to hold up the ball, played a crucial role.
Unfortunately, Miku couldn’t maintain consistent form, and his goal-scoring performance fell short of convincing Lennon to make a permanent offer.
Post-Celtic, Miku transferred to Qatari club Al-Gharafa in September 2013 for an undisclosed fee, registering five goals in 15 games during his debut campaign.
His journey continued with a move to Rayo Vallecano in February 2015, followed by joining Indian Super League team Bengaluru in August 2017.
In August 2019, Miku joined Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia, later managed by Lennon.
He then returned to Spain with Deportivo La Coruña after their relegation to the third tier.
Subsequent transfers led him to Real Murcia, and on February 3, 2023, he joined CF Intercity, a team in Spain’s third tier.
At the age of 38, Miku made another move to the lower league side CD Arenteiro in August of the previous year, signing a contract until July 2024.
The stadium’s capacity is 4,500.
