Everton made an effort to secure the services of 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis from Benfica, but their bid was rejected by the Portuguese club.
According to reports from Graeme Bailey on HITC, Everton submitted an offer for the midfielder,
who has garnered interest from other Premier League clubs as well.
Florentino Luis, originally from Lobito in Angola, rose through the ranks of Benfica’s youth division.
Despite taking some time to break into the first-team squad at Estadio da Luz, he made
a significant impact during the 2022/23 season.
After two loan spells, he became a regular for Benfica last season, although his playing
time has been limited in the current season.
The 24-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from various clubs, including Premier
League and La Liga teams like Fulham and Barcelona.
Everton’s interest in Luis is not surprising, considering uncertainties surrounding the
future of players like Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Andre Gomes at Goodison Park.
However, Benfica rejected Everton’s initial bid for Florentino Luis, leaving the
possibility open for the Merseyside club to improve their offer before the
January transfer window concludes.
The situation remains intriguing as Everton may present an enhanced bid in the final
hours of the transfer window.
