Neal Maupay, an Everton loanee, came under fire following the Manchester City vs. Brentford incident.
Chris Sutton has criticized Everton loanee Neal Maupay for his involvement in the controversy during the Brentford vs. Manchester City match on February 5th.
While Maupay scored the opening goal, Brentford conceded three goals at the other end, resulting in a 3-1 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The controversy arose when Maupay got into a confrontation with Kyle Walker and allegedly made a comment about Walker’s children, as reported by the Daily Mail on February 8th.
Sutton expressed bewilderment at Maupay’s behavior, questioning why he would provoke players who are clearly superior in skill.
He suggested that Maupay should have kept a low profile and refrained from engaging in such exchanges.
Maupay’s recent conduct, including previous incidents like mocking James Maddison and engaging in heated confrontations on the pitch, reflects negatively on his character and professionalism.
Such behavior not only damages his own reputation but also tarnishes the image of the sport.
While Walker’s response may not have been ideal, Sutton emphasized that it doesn’t justify Maupay’s actions. He stressed the importance of professionalism and urged Maupay to focus on improving his game rather than engaging in controversy.
Given Maupay’s struggles at Brighton and Everton, Sutton suggested that he should prioritize humility and self-improvement.
By learning from past mistakes and demonstrating maturity both on and off the pitch, Maupay can regain respect and credibility within the football community.
