‘He’s going to get beaten up!’ – On loan Everton wind-up merchant warned to ‘start practicing kickboxing’
Everton loanee Neal Maupay is back in the scoring books at Brentford and has once again drawn attention with his provocative on-field tactics.
The French striker has recently been involved in confrontations during his last few matches,
allegedly making remarks to opposition players that have sparked controversy.
In the most recent incident, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker complained to referee Stuart
Atwell that Maupay had made remarks about his children, an accusation vehemently denied by the forward.
Despite scoring a goal against Manchester City on Monday, Maupay couldn’t prevent Brentford from losing 3-1, with Phil Foden netting a hat-trick.
The 27-year-old has improved his scoring record this season, finding the net four times in 18 Premier League appearances, a notable advancement from last season when he managed just one goal for Everton.
Brentford holds an option to buy Maupay for around £15 million as part of his loan agreement with Everton.
On the Footballers Football Podcast, West Ham forward Michail Antonio described Maupay as one of the most disliked players in the Premier League.
“Maupay is known to be a bit of a wind-up! I know someone who knows him and he’s meant to be a nice guy off the pitch but he does it on purpose,” Antonio remarked.
“I feel he goes on the pitch to rub people up the wrong way, and he’s known for it now.
He is probably the most disliked person on the field. One of these days he is going to get beaten up!”
While acknowledging that Maupay needs to be cautious, Antonio admitted that he appreciates
the striker’s ability to unsettle opponents.
“I’m not going to lie, I rate it! I rate it for him.
It’s not something I would do but it’s part of his character, the fact he can just put it on in
a game and 90% of the time he knows what he is doing, so it’s a skill that he has.”
Antonio also expressed concern that Maupay’s antics could eventually lead to retaliation,
potentially landing him in trouble at halftime or after a game.
