Clemson And Dabo Swinney Break Own Transfer Portal Policy For Big-Time Target

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have officially stepped into the world of modern college football and the transfer portal. After years of transfer portal denial, Swinney has seen the once perennial powerhouse Tigers come back to the field in recent year.

Yes, Clemson did make the innaugural 12-team College Football Playoff and win the ACC for the eighth time in 10 years, but it took a dramatic 56-yard field goal at the last second to save their season.

Now, it appears that Swinney has realized the error of his way. Because the Tigers are set to host one of the transfer portal’s top prospects, Purdue defensive end Will Heldt, for an official visit.

Dabo Swinney Turns To Transfer Portal For First Time In Search Of Help On Defense

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Heldt burst onto the scene as a true sophomore for the Boilermakers, recording 56 tackles, 10 for loss, and five sacks. He ranks at the No. 45 overall prospect in 247Sports transfer portal rankings.

But here’s the interesting thing. The Tigers have never taken a scholarship defensive player via the transfer portal. Heldt would be the first. But it’s easy to see the fit for both sides. Swinney and Clemson repeatedly churn out NFL caliber defensive lineman, and Heldt would provide a terrifying combo on the opposite side of All-ACC pass rusher TJ Parker, who had 11 sacks this season.
