Premier League accused of Everton thievery as next twist in Goodison ‘fiasco’ emerges
Sunday People columnist Neil Moxley asserts that the Premier League needs to improve its handling of point deductions amidst the ongoing issues surrounding Everton.
Earlier this season, Sean Dyche’s team had 10 points deducted, which were later partially restored. Similar scrutiny surrounds other top-flight clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
Moxley argues in the Sunday Mirror that the Premier League’s handling of the Everton
situation, including the deduction and subsequent restoration of points, along with unresolved issues at
other clubs, reflects poorly on the league’s management.
He suggests that independent auditors at clubs could prevent such situations or provide clear warnings and punishments if necessary.
The Everton case, in particular, highlights the need for swifter and more
decisive action from the Premier League, especially considering the impact on club staff and the uncertainty it
creates, particularly for teams battling relegation.
Moxley questions whether Nottingham Forest and Manchester
City will face similar punishments and emphasizes the importance of consistent enforcement of league rules.
Despite the points deduction being reduced for Dyche’s team, they remain in poor form,
having gone winless in their last six matches.
However, the reduction in points has boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation, as they currently sit five points above the drop zone with 11 games left in the season.
