Everton Football Club expresses profound sorrow at the news of the passing of Jimmy Husband, a member of the 1969/70 League Championship-winning team.
At the age of 76, Jimmy peacefully passed away on Saturday after a brief illness.
Jimmy joined Everton in 1963 during their tenure as League Champions, contributing 55 goals in 199 appearances for the first team.
Born on October 15, 1947, in Newcastle, he was a highly sought-after young talent, representing England Schoolboys and having offers from numerous clubs, including Aston Villa, Leeds United, Sunderland,
Newcastle United, Middlesbrough, Burnley, and Everton. Ultimately, he chose Everton and made his professional debut in April 1965 against Fulham.
During his early years at the club, he lived in Tuebrook, and in the 1964/65 season, he was part of the Everton team that won the FA Youth Cup for the first time.
Jimmy’s inaugural senior goal occurred at Goodison Park in January 1967, contributing to a 4-1 victory against Sheffield United.
Despite some setbacks, including a missed opportunity at Wembley in the 1968 FA Cup final, he played a key role as Everton secured another First Division title in 1970.
In 1973, Jimmy departed Everton to join Luton Town, aiding them in achieving promotion to the First Division in the 1973/74 season.
After a stint with Memphis Rogues in the USA and a brief foray into indoor soccer, Jimmy eventually settled in Bedfordshire, where he ran a pub during his post-football career.
He remained connected to Everton, participating in events like the Former Players Foundation Christmas Lunch and being a special guest at Goodison in 2020.
