Remains of dead bodies found in woods in Carolina Panthers

“Somebody took that body and put it in that wooded area”: Deputies investigate human remains found in Sumter

Human remains were found in the woods on Sunday morning, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.

The remains were found near Cimmaron Road by a group of hunters, according to officials.

“It’s not normal to find a body wrapped in a tarp in a wooded area,” said Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker.

Officials say around 10 am the group of hunters noticed a strong odor coming from a tarp about 30 to 40 feet from the roadway.

Officials have confirmed that the remains were human.

It is currently unknown how long the remains were there, but officials estimate they have been there for one to two weeks.

An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine more information about the identity of the remains.

The coroner’s office alongside the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and SLED are investigating the incident.
