Police and community seek answers after the discovery of body belonging to a ‘young baby’ in KC
Police found the body late Saturday night on 38th Terrace.
Late Saturday, around 7:45 pm, officers were dispatched to a wooded area near the intersection of East 41st and Pittman Road after a caller reported the discovery of a dead body.
In a press release Sunday, police confirmed the caller had been in the woods and helped officers locate what they believed to be a dead body. After arriving at the scene, KCPD says officers found the body of a young baby that had been dead for some time.
Detectives and crime scene personnel also responded to the scene for investigation. Police say the case remains a death investigation until results from the medical examiner have been gathered.
KCPD says a full complement of investigators and detectives processed the scene and gathered evidence so police can proceed accordingly once they have received the official cause of death.
Detectives are working in conjunction with the medical examiner’s office.
Because the baby’s body was found in a state of decay, the age or any other details of the baby are not yet known by the police.
The police department says cases like this can take a toll on the department.
