“New Orleans Saints Explore Adding Jon Gruden to Offensive Staff Amid Potential Changes for 2024 Season”
The New Orleans Saints are reportedly considering former Las Vegas Raiders head
coach Jon Gruden to join their offensive staff, according to sources. Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com
reported on January 8 that the Saints, looking to make changes after a disappointing
2023 season, have met with Gruden during their Week 17 road trip to Tampa.
Gruden, a Super Bowl-winning coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is envisioned as
a potential addition to the Saints’ coaching staff, likely in a consulting role on offense.
While the position wouldn’t be as the offensive coordinator, given that
Pete Carmichael remains in that role, Gruden’s expertise could be valuable in enhancing offensive strategies. However, potential hurdles arise from Gruden’s ongoing lawsuit against the NFL,
with a court date set for January 10. The outcome could impact his eligibility for employment.
Despite Gruden’s recent coaching stint with the Raiders resulting in a mixed record,
the Saints may view him as a beneficial addition to address offensive consistency concerns.
It remains to be seen if Gruden would settle for a consultant role or hold out for a potential head coaching opportunity, especially considering the six head coaching vacancies in the NFL, including the recent firing of Mike Vrabel by the Tennessee Titans
