The Yorkshire air ambulance was scrambled and and a patient taken to hospital after a horrific collision near Barnsley, say emergency services.
South Yorkshire Police urged people to avoid the area while they and Yorkshire Ambulance Service personnel worked at the crash scene, earlier this afternoon.
Ambulance officials have now released details of the emergency response which saw the air ambulance on the scene, as well as conventional road ambulance.
They said in a statement: “We received an emergency call at 11.05am on Friday morning to report a collision close to Junction 38 on the M1 (southbound).
