“Senegal’s AFCON Triumph Extends Rangers’ Sima Absence; Team Advances Effortlessly in Group Stages
Marseille striker Ismaila Sarr played a pivotal role as Senegal,
the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions, secured a comfortable
3-1 victory over Cameroon, advancing to the last 16.
Sarr opened the scoring with a deflected strike in the 16th minute,
later assisting Habib Diallo, and Sadio Mane sealed the win in stoppage time.
Cameroon responded with a late header from Jean-Charles Castelletto
but now faces the final group fixture against Gambia with just one point.
The outcome means Rangers will be without their forward
Abdallah Sima until at least the start of next month.
In Group B, Cape Verde secured a spot in the knockout stages with a 3-0 win over Mozambique.
Bebe’s remarkable free-kick and a brace from Ryan
Mendes ensured Cape Verde’s dominance, topping their
pool after a previous shock victory over Ghana.
Mozambique, currently at the bottom of the section with one
point, will face Ghana in their final group game, while Cape Verde meets Egypt on Monday.
Mendes’ spectacular 25-yard drive marked the conclusion of a commanding performance by Cape Verde.
