“Celtic Eyes Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher for Summer Move as Goalkeeper Contract Situation Unfolds
Celtic is considering a summer move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to sources from Football Insider.
Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the Inside Track
Podcast, revealed that a January deal for the Republic of
Ireland international would be too costly for Celtic.
With Joe Hart’s contract set to expire at the end of the season,
Celtic is expected to prioritize signing a goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.
Liverpool is reportedly seeking around £20 million to allow Kelleher,
their second-choice goalkeeper, to leave this month.
Sources indicate that the 25-year-old is prepared to depart the
Premier League giants in the summer for regular
first-team football, creating an opportunity for Celtic.
Kelleher, a target on Brendan Rodgers’ list of goalkeepers,
has earned a positive reputation at Anfield, making
11 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
Despite being highly regarded, Kelleher, who joined
Liverpool’s academy in 2015, has not exceeded eight
senior appearances in a season before this campaign.
Eager to become a first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere,
he started in various competitions for Liverpool this season.
Celtic, currently leading the league by eight points,
is set to face Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
