Caoimhin Kelleher transfer latest as Celtic and 3 Premier League clubs interested

Due to the formidable competition at Anfield, particularly with Alisson regarded

as the top goalkeeper globally, the chances of the Irishman making a permanent

breakthrough seem slim. This situation has prompted consideration of a permanent move, which was anticipated last summer but was blocked by Jurgen Klopp.

This year presents a different scenario, as Kelleher turned 25 in November

and is entering the final two years of his contract at the season’s end.

Celtic is among the clubs showing interest in Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper

ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Mail’s Lewis Steele. With Joe Hart’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Kelleher is seen as a potential replacement.

Celtic is not the sole interested party, as three unnamed Premier League

clubs have also scouted the goalkeeper this season. Notably, two clubs that explored deals for Kelleher last summer, Brighton and Brentford, have since secured new No. 1 goalkeepers.

The decision of whether to leave Liverpool is yet to be made by Kelleher, who finds the opportunity to further develop in the first-team squad at Anfield appealing.

Ideally, Liverpool would prefer to retain their No. 62, and any potential sale would depend on the player seeking regular playing time and prospective buyers offering a fair transfer fee. With Kelleher’s contract set to expire in 2026, a decision is likely to be made this summer.

In the event of Kelleher’s departure, Liverpool has been loosely linked with Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as his replacement, though doubts exist about the 23-year-old’s suitability, as per Steele’s assessment.
