“AZ Alkmaar Axes Manager Pascal Jansen, Ending Celtic’s Pursuit for Successor to Ange Postecoglou”
Celtic’s Pursuit of Pascal Jansen Ends as AZ Alkmaar Sacks Manager
Celtic explored the possibility of appointing Pascal Jansen to succeed Ange Postecoglou, but the Dutch manager now finds himself unemployed following his dismissal by AZ Alkmaar.
Ange Postecoglou’s departure from Celtic during the summer was a setback, considering the skepticism surrounding his appointment in 2021. However, Postecoglou proved his worth, securing two league titles during his tenure at Parkhead before moving on to Tottenham.
During the managerial transition, Celtic had shown interest in AZ Alkmaar’s Pascal Jansen, who had garnered attention for his accomplishments. Despite the interest, Brendan Rodgers ultimately took the reins at Celtic.
Jansen, a London-born coach, had an impressive season with AZ Alkmaar, finishing fourth in the Eredivisie and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. However, his fortunes changed this season.
AZ Alkmaar had a strong start under Jansen, dropping only four points in the first 10 games. Unfortunately, their form took a downturn, losing four out of seven matches and facing challenges in the Europa Conference League group stage, leading to their elimination.
On Wednesday, AZ Alkmaar announced the termination of Jansen’s contract, ending his time in charge. Jansen, with a remarkable 58% win rate, leaves after securing 94 wins in 162 games.
Despite the setback, Jansen’s impressive managerial record may attract interest from other clubs in the near future. While Celtic may have considered him, they currently stand by their decision to appoint Rodgers.
