“Ridvan Yilmaz Eager for Galatasaray Move as Rangers Left-Back Eyes January Exit”

Ridvan Yilmaz is keen on a January move to Galatasaray, signaling his desire to part ways with Rangers, as reported by Burhan Can Terzi on 18 January. The Turkish international currently holds the position of the primary left-back at Ibrox.

In an interview with Parcali Sportz, the Haber Global journalist provided the latest insights on Yilmaz, whose potential departure aligns with Philippe Clement’s pursuit of a new left-back during this transfer window. Clement, unsatisfied with the performances of both Yilmaz and Borna Barisic in the left-back role, is looking to elevate the standards in that position.

A return to Turkey appears to be a logical choice for Yilmaz, given his four-year stint with Besiktas before Rangers acquired him for an initial fee of £3.4 million, potentially rising to £5.3 million with add-ons [source: BBC Sport]. Since joining Ibrox in July 2022, Yilmaz has struggled to settle into Scottish football, making only 29 appearances. With his current contract extending for five years, it seems his time with Rangers is drawing to a close after just two years.

With Clement assuming the managerial role in October, the desire to reshape the squad and imprint his vision is evident. Yilmaz might be the initial casualty of this revamp, marking the beginning of several planned transfers envisioned by Clement.

Should the Turkish left-back depart in January, Rangers face the crucial task of promptly securing a replacement to fill the void left by Yilmaz.
